Slow Cooked Marinara Sauce Slow Cooker Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (160 g) finely chopped onion
  • ½ cup (65 g) finely chopped carrots
  • ½ teaspoon chopped garlic
  • 2 tbsps (28 ml) olive oil
  • 2 cans 28 ounces, or 785g no-salt-added crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon 15g brown sugar

Method

  1. In a skillet, saute onion, carrots, and garlic in oil until tender
  2. Do not brown
  3. Combine onion mixture, tomatoes, and brown sugar in slow cooker
  4. Stir well
  5. Cover and cook on low 6 to 10 hours
  6. Remove cover
  7. Stir well
  8. Cook on high uncovered for 1 hour for a thicker marinara sauce
  9. Yield: 12 servings
  10. Per serving: 141 g water; 54 calories (37% from fat, 8% from protein, 55% from carb)
