Chapati Recipe
Ingredients
Makes 4 servings
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon canola oil
- ¾ cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons vegan margarine, melted
Method
- In a large bowl, combine both flours, salt, oil and water to form a soft dough
- Knead the dough until smooth, 3 to 5 minutes, then cover tightly with plastic wrap
- Let the dough rest for 30 minutes
- Preheat oven to 200°F
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces
- Roll out each piece of dough on a lightly floured work surface into a circles about 1/8 inch thick
- Heat a lightly oiled griddle or skillet over medium heat
- Add the chapati, one at a time and cook, turning once, until golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side
- Transfer the cooked chapati to a heat-proof platter and brush with the melted margarine
- Cover loosely with foil and keep warm in the oven while you cook the remaining chapatis
