Easy Swiss Steak Slow Cooker Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil
  • ½ cup (60 g) flour
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 pound (900 g) round steak
  • 300 g green bell pepper, sliced into rings
  • 300 g red bell pepper, sliced into rings
  • 4 cups (640 g) onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 can (28 ounces, or 785 g) no-salt-added diced tomatoes

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, pepper, and paprika
  3. Dredge the steaks in the flour mixture and place in the skillet
  4. Brown steaks on both sides and remove from heat
  5. In a slow cooker, alternate layers of steak, green pepper, red pepper, onion, and tomatoes
  6. Cover and cook 6 to 8 hours on low until steaks are very tender
  7. Yield: 6 servings
  8. Per serving: 414 g water; 392 calories (22% from fat, 49% from protein, 29% from carb)
