Sesame Tofu with Tahini Sauce

Sesame Tofu With Tahini Sauce

Ingredients

Makes 4 servings

  • 1/2 cup tahini (sesame paste)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup white sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup black sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 pound extra-firm tofu, drained, patted dry and cut into 1/2-inch strips
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons canola or grapeseed oil

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine the tahini, lemon juice, soy sauce and water, stirring to blend well
  2. Set aside
  3. In a shallow bowl, combine the white and black sesame seeds and cornstarch, stirring to blend
  4. Season the tofu with salt and pepper to taste
  5. Set aside
  6. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat
  7. Dredge the tofu in the sesame seed mixture until well coated, then add to the hot skillet and cook until browned and crispy all over, turning as needed, 3 to 4 minutes per side
  8. Be careful not to burn the seeds
  9. Drizzle with tahini sauce and serve immediately
