Southern Pecan Bars Recipe

Ingredients

  • Serving Size : 1
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped pecans
  • ***PECAN TOPPING***
  • 2 Eggs – beaten
  • 3/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans

Method

  1. Cream butter and sugar, add flour and baking powder, blending until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
  2. Stir in pecans.
  3. Pat pecan mixture firmly into a well-greased 13x9x2 inch pan.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
  5. Cover with Pecan Topping and bake 25 to 30 additional minutes.
  6. Let cool before cutting into bars.
  7. Yield: 30 bars
  8. PECAN TOPPING:
  9. Combine all ingredients, except pecans; pour over partially baked crust.
  10. Sprinkle with pecans.
  11. Yield: topping for 30 bars.
