Low Fat Banana Walnut Oatmeal Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup skim or low-fat milk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup, plus more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts

Method

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, salt and 3/4 cup water; heat until almost boiling.
  2. Add oats and cook, stirring, until creamy, 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in mashed banana and 1 tablespoon maple syrup.
  4. Divide between 2 bowls, garnish with walnuts and a little more maple syrup and serve.
  5. Makes about 2 cups, for 2 servings.
  6. Calories per serving: 12 grams protein, 5 grams fat 0 gram saturated fat, 54 grams carbohydrate; 75 mg sodium; 2 mg cholesterol; 3 grams fiber
