The fatigue that comes with anxiety can be due to lack of sleep, poor sleep, the hyperactivity that often accompanies anxiety, the constant dwelling on problems real or imagined, tremors, or any number of other symptoms. Some of these causes of fatigue are due to the adrenaline-like neurotransmitters and some are mediated by Serotonin. Supplemental 5-HTP might be helpful as an adjunct to treatment, but make sure you discuss it with your physician or pharmacist, especially if you are on tranquilizers or other medications.

Valerian is a general relaxant for the nerves. It forms the basis of many over-the-counter remedies that help with sleep or anxiety. It can be used in many situations: for instance, when you have problems sleeping, when you are nervous before an exam or job interview, or when you feel stressed at work. It can be employed for older children in some cases of hyperactivity, but the dosage should be adjusted by a herbalist (too much valerian can have a stimulating effect). Valerian takes the edge off anxiety and works quite quickly – normally you should feel more relaxed within half an hour of taking a dose. It can also be used to lessen certain kinds of pain: tension headache, earache or period pain.
