German Sweet Chocolate Cake

German Sweet Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • Serving Size : 1
  • 4 ounces Baker’s German Sweet Chocolate
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 Egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 Egg whites – stiffly beaten

Method

  1. Melt chocolate in boiling water.
  2. Cool.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Blend in vanilla and chocolate.
  6. Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth.
  7. Fold in beaten whites.
  8. Pour into three 8 or 9 inch layer pans, lined on bottom with paper.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
  10. Frost tops only.
  11. Can use coconut-pecan frosting for tops
