Ingredients
- Serves: 6
- 1 1/2 cups yellow split lentils, rinsed and drained
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp garlic, minced
- 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- For tempering:
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 tsp whole cumin seeds
Method
- Add lentils into the slow cooker with 4 cups water.
- Add turmeric powder, garlic, tomatoes, onion, and salt into the slow cooker and stir well.
- Cover and cook on low for 5 hours.
- Heat vegetable oil in the pan over medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot then turn off the heat and add cumin, garlic, and spices.
- Mix well.
- Stir prepared tempering into the hot lentil.
- Add cilantro and stir well.
- Cook lentils for another 1 hour to blend all flavors.
- Serve hot with rice and enjoy.
