Baking Powder Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients

Makes about 12 biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt 1/3 cup vegan margarine
  • ¾ cup plain soy milk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F
  2. Lightly oil a baking sheet and set aside
  3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt
  4. Mix well
  5. Use a pastry blender or fork to cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  6. Add the soy milk, stirring just long enough to form a soft dough
  7. Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and knead gently until the dough just holds together
  8. Shape the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick circle, about 8 inches in diameter
  9. Use a floured 2-inch biscuit cutter or the rim of a small drinking glass to cut the biscuits into rounds
  10. Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about an inch apart
  11. Reshape any leftover dough, cut into biscuits and place on the baking sheet
  12. Bake until golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes
  13. Serve hot
