Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup hot orange-flavor tea
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 medium oranges, peeled, and sliced crosswise
- orange peel curls, optional
- fresh mint sprigs, optional
Method
- Heat sugar in a small, heavy saucepan over medium-high heat, without stirring, just till it begins to melt.
- Reduce heat to medium-low; cook and stir about 4 minutes or till sugar is melted and turns a deep golden brown.
- Do not overcook.
- Remove from heat.
- Very slowly and carefully stir hot tea into the caramelized sugar.
- If necessary, return to heat and cook till any hard sugar particles dissolve.
- Cool.
- Stir in vanilla.
- To serve, pour syrup into six shallow dessert dishes or plates.
- Arrange orange slices in syrup.
- If desired, garnish each serving with an orange peel curl and a mint sprig.
