It is absolutely essential that you should have some form of daily exercise. Many people have improved their health and stiffness problems just by doing very simple exercises. Some Yoga Asanas are suitable for almost anyone even if you have problems with mobility.
If you have problems sanding, some of these yoga exercises can also be performed with or on a chair.
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga as exercise, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (poses) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles. For beginners, asanas may be held from 45 seconds to two minutes; more the advanced may stay in one asana for five minutes or longer.
With all exercises, yoga or otherwise, you should listen to your body. Only go to 70% of your maximum movement. If you are injured or have a serious mobility problem, keep to 40% and gradually aim to work up to 70%.
Exercise equally on both sides and in particular be aware or present – in other words concentrate on what is happening within the body whilst you are doing your yoga.
Ideally, you should perform 4-12 repetitions of each chosen yoga pose on both sides as soon as you feel able to.
