Sweet Fried Dough Spanish Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 4 cups spanish extra-virgin olive oil
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 cups spanish hot chocolate

Method

  1. Combine the butter, salt, and 2 cups of water in a medium pot
  2. Heat over medium-low heat until the mixture begins to boil, then stir in the flour
  3. Reduce the heat to low and stir vigorously until the batter forms a ball
  4. Remove the pot from the heat
  5. Beat the eggs in a mixing bowl until smooth
  6. Gradually stir the eggs into the batter until well combined
  7. Spoon the batter into a pastry bag fitted with a star tip, then fold down the sides of the bag to compress the batter
  8. Heat the olive oil in a large pot until it measures 350°F on a candy thermometer
  9. Squeeze 3 or 4 4-inch strips of batter into the hot oil
  10. Fry, turning the strips, until golden brown, about 4 minutes
  11. Transfer the churros to a paper towel-lined plate to drain
  12. Spread the sugar on a plate
  13. While the churros are still hot, roll them in the sugar
  14. Repeat with the remaining batter, allowing the oil to return to 350°F between batches
  15. Serve the churros with small cups of hot chocolate
