Red Velvet Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups cooking oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. cocoa
  • 1 oz. red cake food coloring (1 bottle)
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 ½ cups plain flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk mixed with 1 ½ tsp. vanilla extract

Frosting:

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese
  • 1 box confectioners sugar 1 cup finely chopped nuts

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Cream together the oil, sugar and eggs
  3. Mix the cocoa, food coloring and vinegar
  4. Add to first mixture
  5. Sift baking soda with plain flour
  6. Add to creamed mixture, alternating with vanillaflavored buttermilk
  7. Bake in 2 cake pans for 30 minutes

Frosting.

  1. Whip margarine and cream cheese together
  2. Mix in the sugar and nuts
  3. Spread on cake when cold
