Ingredients
Makes about 3 cups
- 2 firm Anjou or Bartlett pears, peeled, cored and chopped
- 2 Granny Smith or McIntosh apples, peeled, cored and chopped
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/3 cup minced onion
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
Method
- In a large saucepan, combine all the ingredients and bring to a boil over medium heat
- Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture is thickened and the liquid is absorbed, about 20 minutes
- Cool to room temperature
- If not using right away, spoon the chutney into a container with a tight-fitting lid
- Cover and refrigerate until needed
- Properly stored, this chutney will keep for up to 1 week
