Ingredients
Makes about 3 cups
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Method
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil
- Cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves
- Remove from heat and set aside to cool, about 15 minutes
- Stir in the orange juice and lemon juice, then pour the mixture into a shallow baking pan
- Cover and freeze until firm, stirring about once per hour, about 3 hours
- When firm, remove the mixture from the freezer and scrape it with the tines of a fork until fluffy
- Spoon the granita into a container, cover and freeze until serving time
- The taste and texture of the granita is best if eaten within a few hours after it is made
