North Indian Red Beans Recipe

Ingredients

  • Serves: 4
  • 2 cups dry red beans, soak for overnight
  • 2 tbsp cilantro, chopped
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Method

  1. Heat oil in the pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, bay leaf, and cumin seeds into the pan and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Add dry spices and lemon juice and stir for 2 minutes.
  4. Add beans, cinnamon stick, tomato sauce, and salt into the slow cooker.
  5. Transfer pan mixture into the slow cooker and stir well.
  6. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours.
  7. Using spoon lightly mash the red beans it helps to thicken the gravy.
  8. Garnish with cilantro and serve.
