Mulled Non-Wine Slow Cooker Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • 1 4-inch (10 cm) cinnamon stick2 broken whole cloves
  • whole allspice berries
  • 750 ml cranberry juice
  • 475 ml pomegranate juice
  • 475 ml cherry juice blend
  • ¼ cup (60 g) brown sugar

Method

  1. Use a vegetable peeler to remove peel in wide strips from the orange, being careful to avoid the bitter white part underneath
  2. For spice bag, cut a 6-inch (15 cm) square from a double thickness of cotton cheesecloth
  3. Place orange peel, broken cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice in the center of the cheesecloth square
  4. Bring up corners of the cheesecloth; tie closed with clean kitchen string
  5. In a slow cooker, combine cranberry juice, pomegranate juice, cherry juice, and brown sugar
  6. Add spice bag to cooker
  7. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 2½ to 3 hours
  8. Remove and discard spice bag
  9. Yield: 10 servings
  10. Per serving: 190 g water; 128 calories (2% from fat, 2% from protein, 96% from carb)
