Ingredients
- 1 orange
- 1 4-inch (10 cm) cinnamon stick2 broken whole cloves
- whole allspice berries
- 750 ml cranberry juice
- 475 ml pomegranate juice
- 475 ml cherry juice blend
- ¼ cup (60 g) brown sugar
Method
- Use a vegetable peeler to remove peel in wide strips from the orange, being careful to avoid the bitter white part underneath
- For spice bag, cut a 6-inch (15 cm) square from a double thickness of cotton cheesecloth
- Place orange peel, broken cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice in the center of the cheesecloth square
- Bring up corners of the cheesecloth; tie closed with clean kitchen string
- In a slow cooker, combine cranberry juice, pomegranate juice, cherry juice, and brown sugar
- Add spice bag to cooker
- Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 2½ to 3 hours
- Remove and discard spice bag
- Yield: 10 servings
- Per serving: 190 g water; 128 calories (2% from fat, 2% from protein, 96% from carb)
