Maple Baked Beans Recipe

Ingredients

Makes 4 servings

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, minced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons blackstrap molasses
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 cups cooked or 2 (15.5-ounce) cans Great Northern beans, drained and rinsed

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F
  2. Lightly oil a 2-quart casserole and set aside
  3. In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat
  4. Add the onion and garlic
  5. Cover and cook until softened, about 5 minutes
  6. Stir in the tomatoes, maple syrup, molasses, soy sauce, mustard and cayenne and bring to a boil
  7. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, until slightly reduced, about 10 minutes
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste
  9. Place the beans in the prepared casserole
  10. Add the sauce, stirring to combine and coat the beans
  11. Cover and bake until hot and bubbly, about 30 minutes
  12. Serve immediately
