Pressure/Manual (High) Natural/Quick Release
- 1 cup urad dal (split black lentils)
- 1 cup chopped yellow onions
- 1 cup chopped seeded tomatoes
- ¾ cup water
- 2 teaspoons Ghee or vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
- 1 teaspoon amchoor (mango powder)
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
- naan, roti, or lavash, for serving
Method
- In the Instant Pot, combine the urad dal, onions, tomatoes, water, ghee, turmeric, cayenne, garam masala, and amchoor
- Stir to combine
- Secure the lid on the pot
- Close the pressure-release valve
- Select MANUAL and set the pot at HIGH pressure for 3 minutes
- At the end of the cooking time, allow the pot to sit undisturbed for 10 minutes, then release any remaining pressure
- Stir in the lemon juice
- Divide the dal among four shallow bowls
- Garnish with the cilantro
- Serve with the flatbread of your choice
