Hush Puppy Puffs Recipe

Ingredients

  • Serving Size : 1
  • 3/4 cup cornmeal
  • 3/4 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 Egg – slightly beaten
  • 1 medium onion – finely chopped

Method

  1. Salad oil – or shortening
  2. Combine dry ingredients; add buttermilk, egg and onion, stirring well.
  3. Carefully drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil; cook only a few at a time, turning once.
  4. Fry until hush puppies are golden brown (3 to 5 minutes).
  5. Drain well on absorbent towels.
  6. Yield: about 2 dozen
