- 1 loaf French bread
herb butter:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter – at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill – chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh chervil – chopped
- salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1 loaf French bread
Method
- To make the herb butter, combine the butter and herbs in a small bowl and blend thoroughly.
- Season to taste.
- Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
- Makes 3/4 cup.
- Cut the French bread diagonally into 1/2 inch slices.
- Spread each with a bit of the herb butter and toast under the broiler until crisp and brown.
- Note: if you won’t be using the herb butter within 1 day it should be frozen.
- Serves 4-8
