- Purchase:
- One pound thawed Pink shrimp will yield about 3-1/3 cups
- One cup Pink shrimp, loosely packed, weighs about 5 ounces
- Allow about 3 ounces Pink shrimp for each main-dish serving
- Storage:
- Frozen Pink shrimp may be stored, properly wrapped, in the home freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower up to 3 months
- For optimum quality, thawed Pink shrimp can be stored in the refrigerator about 1 day
- Thaw:
- Spread individually frozen Pink shrimp in single layer in shallow dish or pan cover with plastic wrap or foil and thaw, refrigerated, 6 to 7 hours
- Thaw block-frozen Pink shrimp, sealed in plastic bag, refrigerated, 8 to 10 hours or overnight
- Pink shrimp can be thawed in microwave oven according to manufacturer’s directions
- In general, 1 pound Pink shrimp can be thawed at defrost or 30% power about 15 minutes covered with waxed paper; stir once
- Heat:
- Pink shrimp are completely cooked when purchased
- Add to soups, stews and other cooked dishes during last 5 minutes to prevent over-cooking
