German Sweet Chocolate Cake Recipe
Ingredients
- Serving Size : 1
- 4 ounces Baker’s German Sweet Chocolate
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 Egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 Egg whites – stiffly beaten
Method
- Melt chocolate in boiling water.
- Cool.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Blend in vanilla and chocolate.
- Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth.
- Fold in beaten whites.
- Pour into three 8 or 9 inch layer pans, lined on bottom with paper.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Frost tops only.
- Can use coconut-pecan frosting for tops
