Galician Punch Spanish Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces spanish orujo (galician clear distilled spirit) or other high-alcohol clear liquor, such as grappa or pisco
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 strip lemon zest
  • 8-10 coffee beans (optional)
  • 6-8 apple or orange slices (optional)

Method

  1. Pour the alcohol into a small pot and stir in the sugar and lemon zest
  2. Cook the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring with a wooden spoon, until the sugar dissolves, about 3 minutes
  3. Once the sugar melts, carefully light the alcohol with a match
  4. When the flame turns blue, extinguish the flame by covering the pot with a lid and removing it from the stove
  5. Drop in some coffee beans and slices of fruit, if you like
  6. Queimada is traditionally served warm in clay cups
