Ingredients
Makes about 1 1/2 pints
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 cup cranberry juice
- 1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- 2 teaspoons orange zest
Method
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, cranberry juice and cranberries and bring to a boil
- Cook, stirring, over low heat until the cranberries pop and sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes
- Remove from the heat and strain into a bowl
- Stir in the orange juice and orange zest
- Refrigerate until chilled, about 1 hour
- Freeze the mixture in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturers instructions
- When the mixture is finished churning in the machine, it will be soft, but ready to eat
- For a firmer sorbet, transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze no more than 1 to 2 hours for best flavor and texture
