Ingredients

- 2 cups sifted cake flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 Egg whites – stiffly beaten
- 1 Square Baker’s Unsweetened chocolate – melted
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon soda
- 1 tablespoon hot water
Method
- Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and sift together three times.
- Cream butter thoroughly, add sugar gradually, and cream together until light and fluffy.
- Add flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time.
- Beat after each addition until smooth.
- Add vanilla.
- Fold in egg whites.
- Combine chocolate, sugar and soda, and water, and add to 1/3 of cake batter.
- Place light and dark mixtures alternately, a tablespoon a time, in greased loaf or tube pan.
- Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 55 minutes, or until done.
