Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Flour – sifted
  • 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg – well beaten
  • 1 Tablespoon Melted Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Milk

Method

  1. Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and sift together three times.
  2. Combine sugar and egg; add butter.
  3. Add flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time.
  4. Beat after each addition until smooth.
  5. Knead lightly 2 minutes on slightly floured board.
  6. Roll 1/3 inch thick.
  7. Cut with doughnut cutter.
  8. Let rise for several minutes.
  9. Fry in deep fat (385 degrees) until golden brown.
  10. Drain on unglazed paper.
  11. Sugar if desired.
