Burnt Rum Spanish Recipe

Ingredients

  • 8 coffee beans
  • 1 strip of lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 shot of espresso
  • 8 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 cups dark rum

Method

  1. Mix the coffee beans, lemon zest, lemon juice, espresso, 4 teaspoons of the sugar, the cinnamon sticks, and 1½ cups of the rum together in a small pot
  2. Pour the remaining ½ cup of rum into another small pot
  3. Carefully ignite the ½ cup rum with a match, then slowly pour the burning rum into the coffee-rum mixture
  4. Carefully stir the liquid with the bottom of a ladle to mix the ingredients well
  5. Sprinkle the remaining 4 teaspoons of sugar over the burning mixture and stir until the flame subsides
  6. Serve in clay cups
