Low Fat Savory Sourdough French Toast

Ingredients

  • 8 slices sourdough bread, 3/4-inch-thick slices
  • 1/2 cup refrigerated egg product, or frozen egg substitute, thawed
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 4 tablespoons reduced-fat cream cheese, neufchatel
  • 4 tablespoons jalapeno pepper jelly
  • Method

  • Spray a 3-quart rectangular baking dish with nonstick spray coating.
  • Place bread slices in prepared dish.
  • Stir together egg product and milk.
  • Pour over bread slices, turning to coat well.
  • Cover and let stand 5 minutes.
  • Bake in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes.
  • Turn and bake 15 minutes more or till light golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, melt jelly in a saucepan over low heat.
  • To serve, spread cream cheese over baked slices and drizzle with jelly.
