Boba Tea Slow Cooker Recipe

Ingredients

Recipe for: Bubble Tea

Serves 4

Active Time 5 minutes

Pressure/Manual (High) Natural/Quick Release

For the boba

  • 1 cup large boba (see Note) or large tapioca pearls
  • 1½ cups water
  • ¼ cup sugar

For the tea

  • 4 cups strong-brewed black tea
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Method

For the boba

  1. In the Instant Pot, combine the boba, water, and sugar
  2. Secure the lid on the pot
  3. Close the pressure-release valve
  4. Select MANUAL and set the pot at HIGH pressure for 2 minutes
  5. At the end of the cooking time, allow the pot to sit undisturbed for 5 minutes, then release any remaining pressure
  6. Allow the boba to cool in the pot, or pour them and the sugar syrup into a glass jar to cool at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes
  7. The boba will look quite large
  8. They will shrink as they cool
  9. The boba can be kept in the refrigerator in the sugar syrup for a few hours, but they don’t store particularly well

For the tea

  1. In a glass pitcher, stir together the tea, ice cubes, milk, and sugar
  2. Using a slotted spoon, divide the boba among four glasses
  3. Pour the tea over the boba and serve immediately
  4. You can find black boba or, more recently, boba in a variety of colors including rainbow boba
  5. If you can’t find them, plain large tapioca pearls will provide the same texture as the boba-but not the visual element
