Acne can be very troublesome for teenagers, and sometimes it persists into adulthood. It may require prolonged treatment, sometimes with herbs that can influence the hormones involved. The measures below can be tried singly or in combination, depending on how severe the acne is. If it is an occasional single spot, just treat it with external remedies. If it is quite a few spots, take internal treatment – again, either singly or combined, and also use external remedies. The internal treatment for acne often needs to be ongoing for months or even years to bring sustained results. Supplementing with zinc will aid skin healing, although it may be necessary to improve the whole diet – avoid chocolate, coffee and alcohol.
