Orange Granita Recipe

Ingredients

Makes about 3 cups

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Method

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil
  2. Cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves
  3. Remove from heat and set aside to cool, about 15 minutes
  4. Stir in the orange juice and lemon juice, then pour the mixture into a shallow baking pan
  5. Cover and freeze until firm, stirring about once per hour, about 3 hours
  6. When firm, remove the mixture from the freezer and scrape it with the tines of a fork until fluffy
  7. Spoon the granita into a container, cover and freeze until serving time
  8. The taste and texture of the granita is best if eaten within a few hours after it is made
