Ingredients
Makes 6 servings
- 5 ripe Bartlett pears, peeled, cored and cut into 1/4-inch slices
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup vegan margarine, cut into small pieces
Method
- Preheat the oven to 375°F
- Place the pear slices in a 9-inch square baking pan and sprinkle with the sugar, the cornstarch, 1/2 teaspoon of the allspice and the ginger
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of allspice
- Use a pastry blender or fork to cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- Spread the topping over the pears and bake until browned and bubbly, about 40 minutes
- Serve warm
