Ingredients
Makes 4 servings
- 1/2 cup tahini (sesame paste)
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/4 cup white sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup black sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 pound extra-firm tofu, drained, patted dry and cut into 1/2-inch strips
- salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons canola or grapeseed oil
Method
- In a small bowl, combine the tahini, lemon juice, soy sauce and water, stirring to blend well
- Set aside
- In a shallow bowl, combine the white and black sesame seeds and cornstarch, stirring to blend
- Season the tofu with salt and pepper to taste
- Set aside
- In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat
- Dredge the tofu in the sesame seed mixture until well coated, then add to the hot skillet and cook until browned and crispy all over, turning as needed, 3 to 4 minutes per side
- Be careful not to burn the seeds
- Drizzle with tahini sauce and serve immediately
