Low Fat White Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup skim milk

Method

  1. Heat margarine in 1-1/2-quart nonstick saucepan over low heat.
  2. Stir in flour, salt and pepper.
  3. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until margarine is absorbed; remove from heat.
  4. Gradually stir in milk.
  5. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  6. Boil and stir 1 minute.

ABOUT 1 CUP SAUCE.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: Place margarine in 4-cup microwavable measure.

  1. Microwave uncovered on high 15 to 20 seconds or until melted.
  2. Stir in flour, salt and pepper until margarine is absorbed.
  3. Gradually stir in milk.
  4. Microwave uncovered 3 to 4 minutes, stirring every minute, until thickened.
