Italian Swiss Steak Slow Cooker

Italian Swiss Steak Slow Cooker

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsps (16 g) flour
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound (900 g) beef round steak
  • 2 tbsps (28 ml) olive oil
  • 1 cup (160 g) sliced onion
  • 1 can (8 ounces, or 225 g) no-salt-added tomato sauce
  • 225g low-salt spaghetti sauce
  • ½ cup (120 ml) water
  • ½ teaspoon basil
  • ½ teaspoon oregano

Method

  1. Combine flour and pepper in a resealable plastic bag
  2. Cut steak into 6 pieces, add to bag, and shake to coat
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet
  4. Brown steak on both sides
  5. Place onions in slow cooker
  6. Place steak on top
  7. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over steak
  8. Cook on low 8 to 10 hours or on high 4 to 5 hours
  9. Yield: 6 servings
  10. Per serving: 214 g water; 308 calories (34% from fat, 48% from protein, 18% from carb)
